Dental Bridge
A dental bridge is a restorative treatment with versatile applications that replaces gaps between teeth with natural-looking prosthetics. The structure comes in various forms and is applied differently depending on the area of the mouth.
Types of Dental Bridges at Kılınç Dental Clinic
At Kılınç Dental Clinic, we offer multiple types of dental bridge treatments to restore the natural appeal of missing teeth around the mouth.
Traditional Dental Bridge
A traditional dental bridge consists of 3 to 4 consecutive crowns. To qualify for traditional bridges, you need to have healthy teeth or even dental implants at each end of the gap. Why? Because your dentist bonds the crowns or the dental implant on both ends of the teeth. For example, if the bridge consists of 4 crowns, two will replace the missing gaps, while the first and last ones will be bonded to neighboring teeth or implants.
Traditional dental bridges are most suitable for back teeth.
Maryland Dental Bridge
A Maryland bridge comes in the shape of a tooth with wing-like metals on each side. The Maryland bridge replaces a gap by bonding its wings to the back of the adjacent teeth. Similar to a traditional bridge, you need to have teeth or dental implants on both sides of the gap.
Maryland bridges are best for front teeth, as they lack the strength to withstand the pressure of back teeth.
Cantilever Dental Bridge
A cantilever bridge features a tooth connected to a single crown. The tooth replaces a missing gap and is anchored by bonding the adjacent crown to a neighboring tooth or implant.
Cantilever dental bridges are best suited for canines or teeth near the canines. They are only suitable if a single tooth is missing.
They are not recommended for back teeth due to the excessive pressure and force exerted on molars, which the cantilever bridge cannot support.
Procedure
The procedure starts with your dentist assessing your oral health. Any underlying issues must be addressed before placing the dental bridge.
Next, your dentist evaluates your mouth and missing teeth. You need to have teeth on both ends of the gap. Otherwise, your dentist may recommend dental implants first, as traditional dental bridges need to be bonded to implants or natural teeth.
Then comes the step of selecting the material for your bridge. At Kılınç Dental Clinic, we offer an extensive collection. Our dentists will recommend the best material based on:
Allergy history
Price range
Aesthetic goals
After that, our dentists will take impressions of your mouth and send the details to a laboratory. You can have your custom dental bridge in a few weeks.
If you want a same-day dental bridge, consider our CEREC technology.
How Long Do Dental Bridges Last?
Bridges, similar to dental implants, have a maximum lifespan of 15 years. However, many factors, such as poor maintenance and improper oral hygiene, can affect the lifespan of the dental bridge.
